spaces don't block the sun and are assigned too far away. When I moved into the apartment, it was filthy. The window sill in one of the bedrooms had a large chunk missing and seemed a bit dangerous, but my concerns were ignored by management and maintenance. The refrigerator and freezer barely work. The air doesn't circulate well even if it's almost empty. If you keep milk in the door, it spoils. Too far back and it freezes. Stuff in the freezer is either freezer burnt or partially frozen. The "good news" is that your ice cream is always soft! The water pressure in the showers is very low. It's basically like taking a shower under a trickling water can. I was using more water than I normally would because I could barely wash the conditioner out of my hair. The stairs up to the apartments are really horrible and cause pain in my knees. Every single one of my guests, including those who go up and down between 3-10 flights of stairs EVERY DAY for work said these specific stairs were different and exhausting to go up and down. On one occasion I fell while going up the stairs and couldn't move my knee or wrist for a week. I had to get X-rays of them both because of the swelling. Even after living there for 6 months, and having no problem with any other stairs, it was still difficult for me to get all the way up to my 3rd floor apartment just carrying light groceries. The amount of gas used to heat the apartment was extremely high, it doesn't seem like the apartments are insulated very well. The fan built in to the air system was so loud that you can't even hear the person next to you unless you're yelling. I informed management that because of a mental disability, the extreme noise from the fan and also the trains, emergency vehicles, and excessively loud vehicles from outside were causing overwhelm and loss of ability to function, along with a letter from my therapist stating that I meet the conditions for the ADA and the noise was causing an unlivable environment for me and I was told by management that it didn't matter to them. After the rent was raised in June, it was difficult for me to afford the rental cost. I asked if I could cancel my covered parking spot or anything else to lower the cost and I was told that I couldn't. I ended up having to break my lease after 6 months and move out. They told me that after my things are cleared out completely and my keys are turned in, they'd charge me 2 months of rent at once and if I left the apartment clean and in good condition, I could expect to pay another $3000-4000 in cleaning and repairs. Luckily, somehow, I only ended up being charged $900 in repairs and maintenance, but the whole situation has been a nightmare.
see moreover 10% is ridiculous. While I understand how title 42 housing works, I don’t think that it’s justified to move rent up by $200 and claim it to be to cover electricity charges. I know I don’t use $200 worth in a month. My overall experience was fine but expect expenses to be squeezed out of you for little things. I liked the timely maintenance calls. I had no significant dry wall damage and yet they want to charge me over $300 for just partial paint and pin size holes in a few walls. When I had a bigger drywall hole fixed a few months ago and paid that in full, I don’t know how the pin size holes were so much more damaging. If you’re able to look elsewhere for section 42 housing, do it! I hate that I had to constantly adjust my budget every so often because they’d raise it so much. And to be honest, 30 days is not enough notice when you have other things to pay for like phone, car, insurance, groceries etc. I don’t recommend this place. Keep your money and look somewhere else.
