Apartments are fairly affordable for the area. The maintenance staff is super helpful and responsive. Utilities are included in the rent. This is probably one of the better apartment complexes I have lived in.

My family and I lived in the University Student Apartments from 2016-2020. First and foremost my 5-star rating is based more on the community than the actual apartments. The community was WONDERFUL!! Everyone living there was in similar situations... going to school, living minimalistical lives, raising families and trying to enjoy

life in between all the chaos. My family was able to meet and become friends with people from all over the world. There was always some sort of community event happening whether in the courts, all the apartments or activities at the University. The apartment management and maintenance is great as well. They try their best to help in any way they can. The buildings were old, but no one was really living there for the beautiful apartments. All the utilities were included in the rent which was the same every month - once a year (July) the rent would increase. We were there four years and it only went up maybe $200 total. It was a much better price than trying to live off-campus. There were a bunch of playgrounds (one playground per every 3 or 4 apartment buildings), a lot of grassy areas (perfect for playing, picnicking, or snow sledding), laundromats in every apartment building, and a community center for activities or could be reserved for private events. Currently (Aug 2022) the University Student Apartments are being renovated - old buildings being torn down and rebuilt. It's planned to be complete for Fall 2023.

Excellent experience over the past 2 1/2 years living in the University Student Apartments. We have loved the community, natural beauty, and cheap rent of the apartments. They aren’t fancy, but they are perfect for newlywed students or anyone looking for very affordable housing close to campus. We especially LOVED having

the gardens! Growing our own vegetables during the summer has become a new hobby.

This is a horrible place to live. If you value sanitary living conditions, privacy, and a nondiscriminatory place to live, steer clear of this place. The University of Utah Married Student Housing offices are intent on inserting themselves in every decision you make in the complex, the Resident

Assistants are rude and untrustworthy. The rooms are AWFUL! There is mold constantly in the bathroom, the shower clogs weekly regardless of how many work orders we put in to fix it, they have rules for every single little aspect of human life and constantly send rude emails to the entire apartment community commenting on single toys left out on the lawn by neighbors, plants on the windows, or decorations they do not agree with. The power plugs throughout the apartment are somehow incapable of holding a cord(the cords fall out without even being pulled with a nice dangerous spark emitting from it) After informing the housing department of this, they did the usual and ignored us. The stairwells smell like urine and this place is truly disgusting. PLEASE PLEASE spend the extra hundred dollars a month to live in a more satisfactory place nearby. You will not regret it.

We live in the newly built Cottonwood family housing. Cons: -Dont let the fact that it’s “newly built” deceive you. We’ve have had more problems than I’ve ever had living in older places. To start: our floor is uneven and slanted, so we’ve had to break the rules securing our bookshelves because

I don’t want my 1-year old to pull on a shelf that is sitting on an already uneven floor. Our water was hooked up wrong initially so they had to come and fix that to give us hot and cold water. Our furnace was out for 3 weeks in the middle of winter with snow on the ground (again, I have a baby so this was an infuriating factor that ruined his sleep schedule). There was a leak (water coming up through the floor) in my baby’s nursery when we moved in that ruined my nice nursing pillow (no they didn’t pay to replace it). They haven’t even fixed that yet because they have to drill into the wall to fix it and they just keep putting it off. So the plants outside our window that the water source is supposed to water are just dead and ugly. Our hot water was out last week, super fun to shower in cold water with a baby. Our AC hasn’t worked consistently for longer than a few days the entire spring or summer so far. As I’m writing this, it’s 80 degrees at midnight — do you know how hard it is to get a baby to sleep when it’s 80 degrees in his room? Or how hard it is to sleep as an adult in 80 degrees? my husband is in medical school and I'm in my PhD and mostly a SAHM — we NEED our sleep. -these are not family friendly. There is no bathtub in the 2 bed 1 bath. The stroller ramp in the back is 1 mile long with super long switch backs. The parking is a joke for a mom with a stroller and stuff to bring into the appt. -basic things have already started falling apart — a shelf off the screws, baseboards coming off, etc. And we have not been living that hard. -the quality of these apartments does NOT merit the cost. We are poor student families and a 2 bed 1 bath is $1,750 a month. A 3 bed 2 bath (which we will need when we have our second kid) is $2,400?!!!!!! Who is your audience?? you are ripping poor families off. We are almost all poor college families on government aid. To make it worse, you don’t allow us to use our gov aid like WIC discounts on internet. And when we complain about price, you give us a list of aid resources that when you call they tell you “these don’t apply to student housing because it’s supposed to be cheaper.” Pros: -convenient location, close to campus (this is the biggest one that keeps us here… for now) -the community centers you can reserve are super nice and great for parties and gatherings -the playgrounds are great for kiddos and safe away from traffic -lots of great activities put on by the RAs -great neighbors who grief your misery of these horribly built apartments -the maintenance people are nice — I’ve gotten to know them well since we have problems every other week :) In sum - they need to lower their prices or else we are out and will continue to tell people that it’s over priced for a mediocre value. Looking for other housing options. UPDATE: 8/22/2024- raising from 2 stars to 3 stars because they did give us a few hundred dollars in rent credits for the months we didn’t have AC — I had to force it out of them citing the website that the $1,750 we pay each month includes certain amenities. So moral of the story, complain if you have problems and maybe they’ll give you a rent credit. Don’t expect them to care that they are over priced for student housing. But they were nice and apologetic about the ever present problems.
